About b1965.sg
In 2030, Singapore will turn 65.
Singaporeans who were born in 1965, the same year that ‘modern’ Singapore came into being, would also be entering the start of their ‘golden years’ in 2030.
Born 1965 or b1965; I am one of those.
We have journeyed a long way from 1965.
Circa 1965, Singapore was going through a turbulent time and independence was not necessarily welcomed by some people.
So what was going through the minds of our parents? What if they had decided that it was not a good time to bring a new life into the world in those uncertain times? Were they hopeful about Singapore and about us? What was the future they foresaw?
Many say 65 is the official age when one becomes a senior citizen. In many societies, it is also the official retirement age.
Some will be quick to remind us that 1965 is the start of Generation X.
Others prefer to see turning 65 as the start of a different stage in life, to impart what we have learnt to the younger generation.
Many of us have gone through enough in life to say “I told you so” to the younger generation; forgetting that not too long ago, we were the ones saying, “Don’t say, ‘I told you so’,”to our own parents.
All things considered, turning 65 is a milestone.
The 65ers are not just a group of people who happen to be as old as Singapore.
They have grown up along with the country, enjoyed the fruits and suffered the pains of dizzyingly rapid development of an island nation.
All have stories to tell.
“I’m ( – – – – – ) and I am as ( – – – – – ) as Singapore.” not sure how this fits into the intro.
Let’s hear from them.
Sincerely,
Kay Chin
