Joyce TEO started piano lessons in primary school but she never thought of a career in music until she fell in love with the traditional Indonesian art form gamelan at university in Australia. She did her master’s in ethnomusicology and now juggles between teaching at NAFA (Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts) and completing a Phd on the evolution of gamelan in Singapore and its impact on identity.
